Snow Place Valentine for Mom

My mom, Lois, is the one who got me started with stamping. She made my graduation invites, and my sisters’ gradutation invites, she made my wedding invites, and the whole family participated in all the associated assembly lines to get all the aforementioned cards completed. I helped out, but I never thought that I could design cards. I was a fine artist, who painted and drew with charcoal; I didn’t do perfectly straight edges and regimented sizes. I didn’t think cards offered the chance to be creative, because there were so many rules.

This summer my mom invited me to go to a Stampin’ Up card class (with demonstrator Jan V, an amazing teacher) where we made a stack of useful cards for all occasions. I was hooked. I joined Jan’s monthly Stamp Club with my mom, my aunt Sue, and several other lovely ladies. It’s a blast!

Life is busy and I have a family now; there isn’t time (or space in my house) to complete grandiose paintings or minutely detailed drawings. Making a card takes the perfect amount of time that I complete an entire little piece of art and clean up after myself all during the span of nap time. And it IS creative. Even though you use the same stamped image on two different cards, each one can be completely unique. No two people ever create the same exact card, even if they have all the same stamps, papers, and inks.

This blog is the perfect place to document the cards I’ve made. So I dedicate this first post to my mom with a Valentine card made just for her.

This card was created with:

Snow Place Stamp Set (c) Stampin’ Up

Hearts Border Punch (c) Stampin’ Up

No Bones About It Stamp Set  (c) Stampin’ Up <– I used the spots that go on the dinos’ backs to create the black and white spotted strip.

Basic Black, Real Red, Whisper White paper (or approximate equivalents) (c) Stampin’ Up

Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Write Marker  (c) Stampin’ Up

Heart Mom (c) Fiskars <– A cute alternate would be Groovy Love (c) Stampin’ Up.

Stampin’ Dimensionals (c) Stampin’ Up <– I used two for extra pop behind the penguin!

Whisper White and Basic Black Archival Inks (c) Stampin’ Up

Color Combo 1

I got the idea to have the penguin popping out of a circle shape from Brian King’s Bear Hug card.  Click the picture to check out his post on how to use dies to nicely trim off animal feet. Thanks for the idea!

  1. I love your card, Natalie, and your story about getting started with stamping. Really sweet. I love that my “cutting off animal feet” tutorial inspired this adorable card. <3
