This card was for my sister’s boyfriend’s birthday. His whole family and my whole family got together to celebrate… so it’s pretty serious business.
The layout was inspired by the TGIF Challenge #50. I didn’t get around to posting it anywhere near in time to officially participate, but I’ll give them a shout out anyway!
This design is SO versatile. I will definitely be using it again!
The airplane comes from The Sky is the Limit stamp set and the paper is from the Going Places Designer Series Paper Stack, both from Stampin’ Up. (Psst…I think they were made for each other!) I love the look of the old fashioned airplane with the old fashioned blue prints!
I used Stampin’ Write markers to highlight and color the airplane and the sentiment. I used a complimentary color to color in the plane. Art word of the day! Complimentary means two colors are on the exact opposite sides of the color wheel, like blue and orange (or Lost Lagoon and Tangelo Twist). Complimentary colors create a lot of contrast, which causes an area of an image to stand out.
In plain English, the airplane really pops out at you!
I love the little smoke cloud! I drew this by hand, because the stamp that comes in the set has a smoke trail… but it makes a heart shape, which could have been a little awkward to use on my sister’s boyfriend’s birthday card.
