Eastern Palace Card Parade

I had some much fun making my tutorial cards, that I just kept going and I’ve ended up making a whole parade of cards to inspire you! For the parade cards, I pulled out all the stops, including some advanced techniques, like embossing, sponging, and watercolor.

To make these cards, you’ll want to stock up on some fun accessories, such as gold glimmer paper, sponges, vellum cardstock, gold sequins, gold embossing powder, and linen and metallic threads.

I think the gorgeous papers, accessories, and dies in the Eastern Palace Suite speak for themselves, once you see them. So without wasting any more words, let the parade of cards begin!

Tips for “Enjoy Today” Card

The different shapes in the Eastern Beauty stamp set make some really fun backgrounds. There are all kinds of different patterns you can make, or you can randomly sprinkle the images around like I did. I stamped a couple in Tranquil Tide ink, then sponged a gradient background with Tranquil Tide and Lemon Lime Twist.

  • The Eastern Medallions Thinlit Dies come with some mix and match medallion pieces in small, medium, and large; they fit together to make different layers of a medallion. For this one, I used one of the middle sized rings to make the holes around the sentiment. The dies don’t cut the outer circle, just the holes, so you can combine them with the larger medallion sizes. I used a circle from Layering Circles to cut the outer circle here.
  • Try coloring vellum with a Stampin’ Write Marker! I used Pear Pizzazz (it’s a little darker than Lemon Lime Twist) to color the back of the star shaped die cut. It dries quickly, and then viola: colored vellum.
  • Adhere the paper strips the the front panel and snip the ends to match the edge of the panel before adhering the front panel to the card. Trust me, it’s much easier than trying to cut them later.

Homemade card by Natalie Lapakko featuring the Eastern Beauty stamps and Eastern Palace DSP from Stampin Up! Color inspiration: Tranquil Tide, Night of Navy, gold

Tips for “To Think of You” Card

For this card I used one of the Gold Vinyl stickers that come in the Eastern Palace bundle. To go with it, I used several of my favorite gold accessories: gold metallic thread, gold glimmer paper, and gold embossing powder.

  • This card shows an example of what the medallion layers look like when all three are put together. I used a sticky note to position the three dies so they were evenly spaced. The sticky note held the dies in place perfectly so I could die cut this medallion in one run through the Big Shot.
  • These medallions look really great popped up on dimensionals. I cut my dimensionals in smaller pieces so they would fit into the tiny spaces. There are new tiny dimensionals coming in the new catalog that will make this job easier.
  • Speaking of dimensionals, they work great at holding metallic thread in place. The dimensionals behind the sentiment are pulling double duty by also holding on this embellishment. Just make sure you use enough dimensionals that there is still enough clear surface area to strongly adhere the cardstock layers!

Tips for Rainbow Watercolor Card

This is the same medallion as the from the previous card, but this time I didn’t use a circle die to free it from the background paper. This makes a window that shows through the the layer below, or even to the inside of the card!

  • The colorful background panel is a watercolor wash. I used Stampin’ Write Markers to draw lines back and forth on watercolor paper, then blended them together using water and a paintbrush (an Aqua Painter would also work).
  • You can use an embossing heat tool to speed up the drying process when you watercolor. Sometimes the air blows the water and ink around and makes interesting and unexpected patterns.
  • The sentiment is white embossed onto Island Indigo paper and a fussy cut it out. I just love the sentiments that are included with the Eastern Beauty stamp set! The fonts are so pretty, there is a variety of large and small, and many of them fit nicely in a circle.

Homemade card by Natalie Lapakko featuring the Eastern Beauty stamps and Eastern Medallions dies from Stampin Up! Color inspiration: Fresh Fig, gold

Tips for “Thank You”Card

One of my favorite things that comes with the Eastern Palace Premier Bundle is a variety pack of tassels. There are some in Fresh Fig, Tranquil Tide, and gold. The gold one inspired me to add some additional layers of bling to this card.

  • When you cut glimmer paper with dies, turn the glimmer paper face down and put the dies on the back side. It is easier to cut and keeps your dies sharp longer if you cut on the back side.
  • The background of this card uses the emboss resist technique. I heat embossed the flower medallions with white first, then added an ombre Fresh Fig background with sponging. I added additional Fresh Fig stamped decorations afterwards.
  • The Eastern Medallion dies really start to shine when they are layered. Use dimensionals to add depth between layers!
