Lighthearted Thanks

Ideas sometimes have a life of their own. They travel from person to person, growing and changing a little bit each time they swap minds.

I love that the world of stamping fosters the sharing of ideas. We do card swaps, CASE (Copy and Selectively Edit) challenges, clubs, and post our images online all with the idea that our ideas can help inspire other artists.

Sometimes you see something and it sticks in your mind and you can’t ever figure out where you first saw it. At other times the history of how an idea has evolved is well documented.

Today’s card has an “idea history” that can actually be traced.

This idea started out (as far as I know) in the brain of Desire Spenst. Her card looked like this:

Next, Mary Fish got the idea and made something new, with new stamps and colors and sentiments. Her card looked like this:

Now, almost 6 years later after this idea was originally born, it came to me! I wanted to see what this card would look like with the Lighthearted Leaves stamp set (c) Stampin’ Up. Here’s what my card looks like:

Sadly, Lighthearted Leaves was only available for a short time. It’s so pretty! The next person who uses this idea will have to once again reinvent it once again.

I can’t wait to see how this idea continues to grow!

Lucky Stars Thank You Card

Inspiration for my card today comes from the Mojo Monday design sketch #442. This is my first official entry in a contest! Yay!

Mojo442

I wanted to try out some of the new papers designer series paper I got recently, so I pulled out this cute Melon Mambo star paper from the It’s My Party Designer Series Paper Stack. The Going Global Stamp Set had some perfect star themed stamps to go with it.

This was starting to look like an adventuresome card, so it needed an explorer. I chose this cute little penguin to go adventuring under the stars. Voila, a card is born! Or rather made.

Okay, okay… I know it isn’t really winter any more… I just think this penguin stamp is so cute!

I put black around the edges of the melon mambo papers to give them a little more weight. They just looked a little wimpy without them. I love how bold this turned out!

For the first time, I thought I’d try my hand at making one of these images that shows all the different materials I used. These are great  for all visual learner types like me.

Lost Without You

I gave this card to my sister, Angela, for Valentine’s Day, but it could have been for any occasion. I’m lost without her year round!

Angela is my travel buddy. She keeps me from wandering away from the tour group, getting left behind with my nose is in a sketchbook, and forgetting to eat because I’m too busy taking in all the sights. Even when we aren’t traveling, she gives me perspective on life.

My favorite part of this card is the three dimensional, upside down map.

This card was created with:

Going Global Stamp Set (c) Stampin’ Up

Going Places Designer Series Paper (c) Stampin’ Up

Dear Heart Stamp Set (c) Stampin’ Up <– This is a retired set, but it is still available to order on the Stampin’ Up website (as of 2/24/2016). With the thin tipped Basic Black marker I added another arm to each alligator so they could point the way and hold a map, respectively.

Confetti Hearts Border Punch (c) Stampin’ Up

Forest Embossing Folder (c) Darice <– This could also be cute with the Softly Falling or World Traveler Embossing Folders (c) Stampin’ Up.

Very Vanilla Cardstock  (c) Stampin’ Up <– Or a near equivalent ivory cardstock.

Old Olive, Mossy Meadow, Delightful Dijon, Basic Black Stampin’ Write Markers  (c) Stampin’ Up

Stampin’ Dimensionals (c) Stampin’ Up

Here is my color palate for this card.

I’d like to give a special thanks to Marie Shaughnessy from www.MarieStamps.com. Her color chart is amazingly helpful for translating Stampin’ Up colors to RGB and hex color values for my Bewitching Color Combinations, like the one above. Click the thumbnail below to visit her page.
