New 2017-2018 Annual Catalog Sneak Peeks

It’s that time of year where Stampin’ Up! releases a new catalog. We will be saying goodbye to some old favorites that are retiring and we are all looking forward to finding new favorites! Here’s a sneak peek at some things that might become your new favorites.

Out with the Old: Retiring Item List

First, the list of retiring items has been released! Many of the items that are retiring are on sale and more will go on sale depending on the amount of remaining stock. You can see the list of items on the website by clicking this banner:

And here is the PDF version.

In with the New: This Little Piggy Sneak Peek!

There are a LOT of stamps that I love from the new catalog, but when they announced that all the demonstrators at OnStage would be getting the This Little Piggy stamp set, I was ecstatic. First, it is super cute. Second, I come from a family of hog farmers and have many fond memories of visiting the farm every time there were piglets around. My family members will love getting cards adorned with piggies (and I will love making them).

The layout for my card was inspired by Global Design Project Challenge #082!

I didn’t draw a picture of the sketch when I went down to my craft room to make this card. (I was too excited to start stamping with my new stamps.) As a result, this is kind of a loose interpretation of the sketch!

P.S. Thank you GDP for selecting my pop-up slider card as a winner for last week! I am SO honored! This is such a great challenge and I get so much inspiration from the design team and other participants, I just love playing every week!

Now I know you are probably more impatient to see the rest of the sneak peeks than you are to read any long winded directions, so I’ll instead just offer some tips for my This Little Piggy card.

  • Stamp the piggy on colored paper and shade her lightly with a Rich Razzleberry watercolor pencil. This makes her look 3d!
  • Make a textured background by punching out shapes and popping them up on dimensionals. I used the Balloon Bouquet Punch for this background.
  • Use glue dots to attach baker’s twine to the back of the piggy’s hand and to the back of the balloon for a real textured string!

In with the New: 2017-1018 In Colors!

These are the new In Colors for 2017-2018! I’ve found rgb and hex values that match the colors as closely as possible. These color codes rely on my very own eyeballs, and are pretty darn close.

New colors mean that we now have new color codes! Click on the image below to open my updated color code PDF. The PDF version is great because you can copy and paste the text of the code rather than having to type it one letter at a time. Wahoo! You can also find this chart on my References link in the menu at the top of the page, in case you need to find it later.

In with the New: Papers!

I am in love with the new papers this year. I usually like about half of them, or only some of the sheets in a pack but not all. This year is a really great batch and I love almost every sheet!

This is a great time to stock up on cardstock and other accessories that will match the new papers. Start prepping now for when these gorgeous papers are released!

This year there are only two papers that use very vanilla and all the other ones have Whisper White. The Very Vanilla ones include Very Vanilla on the color reference images below, but the ones that have white, I didn’t list.

These sneak peek photos were taken at OnStage, and the lighting on some of the displays was a little dim. As a result the patterns may look a little fuzzy, but I hope you can get an idea of how beautiful these are in person!

2017-2018 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog designer series paper sneak peek and color coordination chart by Natalie Lapakko. Papers include: Birthday Memories, Eastern Palace, Naturally Eclectic, Delightful Daisy, and Color Theory.

Did you notice that the Fresh Floral patterns are a carry over from the Floral Boutique papers from last year? Stampin’ Up! chose some of their favorite patterns and changed them over from Night of Navy to the new 2017-2018 In Colors!

The Foil Frenzy papers are ALL foiled, every single one! This paper is going to be SO fun to work with!

The Wood Textures paper has the same wood pattern on the front and back of the sheet, but is a little darker on one side. This is AWESOME for building 3D projects such as boxes and crates. When you want them to look like natural wood, there won’t be a strange other pattern peeking through.

My favorite paper today in Naturally Eclectic… but I like so many of them, that my opinion will probably be different tomorrow!

I am now offering paper shares! If you love all the papers, too, check out this chance to order a little bit of everything!

In with the New: Suites and Bundles!

These are sneak peek images from the displays at OnStage. We have permission to share our own photos, but can’t yet share the inside of the catalog.

This was my first time at OnStage and it was a great experience! I loved seeing the displays and actually being able to see and touch all the new products!

You are going to love these new up and coming bundles! This is only some of the amazing things in the catalog, there are many more things for you to discover in the catalog. Enjoy!

  1. Thank you for the “Retiring Products” list. I just discovered Stampin’ It Up (I’m newer to card making) and I’d be bummed if I missed something I really wanted! I enjoy your blog.

  2. Congratulations on your win last week Natalie. Another fabulous card this week using the super cute little pig. He looks very happy with his balloon. The balloons popped up on same colour card in the background is a fantastic way to add dimension. We love having you playing along with us at Global Design Project each week.
